Over the hill and through the woods...
Hello all! After I finished my last Across the Miles project, a friend suggested I switch a few elements out of it and add some more Dreaming Tree files to enter it into their 2019 Christmas Challenge. Boy, let me tell you, there are so many great entries that I wasn't sure if I really wanted to tackle that challenge. But my over active mind won out.
However, I just could not bring myself to disassemble my Across the Miles project so I started a whole new one for this contest! Since my other one is more traditional Christmas colors, I wanted to step away from that and go brighter. I found my DCWV Winter Frost stack and Bazzil Basics Paper and got to work.
First I took the Dreaming Tree Dogwood Mantel Clock and hollowed it out just like last time. However, instead of doing snowflakes in the tunnel, I took the stars and circles from the DT Choo-Choo Train SVG. You will see throughout the project that I pulled a little from this file to that file to make everything cohesive throughout each element. I used the Teresa Collins Mega Runner and Xyron Creative Station® to adhere my pieces.
The little gingerbread house is from the DT Gingerbread Junction SVG Bundle. I didn't follow the tutorial so mine is a bit different. I also detailed it with my Craftwell eBrush and a brown Sharpie. The final thing I did was bring in the stars and circles to make the house match the rest.
The train from the DT Christmas Cheer SVG Bundle was easy to assemble. Again I didn't use their tutorial so mine is different as well as floating elements from other portions of the project in.
I used some Tim Holtz loops to hook my train carts together. And I brought in snow details from the gingerbread house as well.
Next I cut out some poinsettias from DT Poinsettia Planter SVG files. I heat embossed the veins onto the leaves after hand drawing them on with a clear Emboss It pen by Ranger Ink.
The final step (not pictured as my camera battery was charging) was to make two gingerbread kiddos from the DT Gingerbread Junction SVG Bundle to represent my children as they are going over the hill and through the woods to their grandparents house for a visit!
The tunnel lights up on this one too!
The changes I made to my gingerbread house are:
Side (it's not lopsided, just the snow tipped it a bit that way!)
The back
The changes on the train are:
The details on each gingerbread person are the holly, circles, and stars that are throughout the rest of the project.
Both of my winter projects are unique and I am so glad I decided not to tear my first one apart.

The changes I made to my gingerbread house are:
- The size is 4"
- Added the snow white lattice, hearts, and circles to the roof
- The blue glitter circles on the roof, stars (on the candy canes) are from the DT Christmas Cheer SVG Bundle
- I put the holly over my door and then took that holly file and used it on my train and gingerbread peeps
Side (it's not lopsided, just the snow tipped it a bit that way!)
The back
- It's downsized just to the point of being able to fit a 1.5" x 1.5" tea light in each cart
- I added snow from the DT Gingerbread Junction SVG Bundle to the train front, around the smokestacks, on the window seals, as well as the train cart bottoms
- I also brought in holly and used them with matching gemstones in the middle to match my gingerbread house on each window/door frame
- I opened up the front of my train so that when I flip my tea light on its side, it lights up the front of my train
- The final change was I added the peppermint candy swirls from my gingerbread house into the circled windows on the middle cart (it's pretty cool lit up below)
The details on each gingerbread person are the holly, circles, and stars that are throughout the rest of the project.
