Easy Wood Photo Coasters
Hello all! We recently got a new table for our living room. After cleaning it several times for ring marks, I decided some coasters were needed. Now, could I have bought some, sure. But what's the fun in that when I can craft this up?!
Supplies needed:
- Wood or tile for your photo
- Wood Stain (optional)
- Mod Podge
- Photos
- Soft bristle brush
- Trimmer or scissors
- Photo safe adhesive
- Adhesive bumpers
- Clear sealant spray
To start with, I needed some wood ends which I happened to have some scrap wood in the garage. I cut each square to 3.5" squared, sanded the edges, and stained them to match the wood pieces in our living room.
Then I selected 6 photos to be printed off (these are about 5 years old so any photo works). They're just regular printed photos, nothing special, no special paper needed. You will need to cut your photos down to the size of the area you want them to be on. I used a pen to trace and cut with my paper trimmer.Next I decided I wanted to round the corners of my photos.
You will need to adhere the back of your photos to your surface with photo safe adhesive. I used the Xyron Anna Griffin Tape Runner.
Next generously paint Mod Podge over your photo, remember to get the edges as well.
Don't worry when you see the milky color over your photo, it dries clear.
I prefer the soft bristles of the brush I used to cut down on noticeable brush strokes once everything dries.
You can see it's already starting to dry.
I threw a little fan on these to help speed up the drying process.
Finally I added some adhesive bumpers to the bottom of two of my coasters.
I will have to run to the hardware store for more adhesive bumpers, but for now two coasters works for us! After letting these dry for a full 24 hours, I sprayed each one with a clear sealant for protection.
Final Project:
I think the final project turned out super cute. I might be impartial though as I helped create the subjects.
Off to the next project! Happy Crafting
