Hello all! I'm gonna give you a few stories in this one. To start with, No Matter What by Papa Roach is a song that reminds me of my husband and I. We have been together for 20 years. Grown up together from 17/18-years-old to now. Two kids, college, a mortgage, car payments, the whole shebang. Some characteristic attributes of my husband have matured with his age. Others, not so much, but that's okay I knew what I was getting into and love him even more for it.
I had this idea in my head to make this sign using some of the lyrics.
I designed it, painted the backing board, measured, cut, and stained the frame. He approved the font. Everything's peachy right?!
Here's where I hit some turbulence. First of all, I ran out of my usual vinyl that I use for my wood signs. So I ran down to the craft store and picked up a brand I knew I shouldn't have, but it was there and I was there so it became our thing together.
It was a short lived relationship. Even though the vinyl said permanent, it was worse than window cling to get it to stick to my wood. I've never had that problem with my good, expensive vinyl. Lessons everywhere.
The next morning when I went to put on the frame, I could see the vinyl had lifted off of my surface. There was no saving it.
Down to the craft store I went again. This time I decided I was going to try out doing the HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl) method for the first time. They had Siser on sale of buy one get one 50% off. So I bought the more expensive this time with hopes that it would work.
This is a larger sign at 48" x 10" so it took almost a full two rolls.
A thing of beauty. Ah, let's take a moment and appreciate the smoothness of the HTV on the wood!
Next I got to play with some more power tools while adhering the frame.
Watch out for that finish nailer, nails into the finger do not feel great.
It's not perfect, but it works for me! I was so excited to go put it up and I thought it would be smooth sailing...entering problem #2...
My man child of a husband realized that the shelf that he cleared to start putting his gaming memorabilia on was coming down so this new sign could replace it. I told him I'd like to bring our room into an adult room and not that of a 12-year-old boy. He did not agree. It took some back and forth, but finally I got him to help me put it up today!
Once we got it up, I felt the wall just looked bare. It needed something else, but I didn't want the old shelves up because let's face it, they turn into catch alls after awhile. Down to the craft store I went. Of course now I want to change out the lamps. He's going to list me for sale real soon. I'm sure of it!
This entire project cost me about $75.00. I will take it! The font I used is from the Silhouette Store (Elegant Fashion Font Design ID 324035). It was designed and cut with Silhouette Studio Business Edition and my Silhouette Cameo 4.
Love it. Well done
