Barn Door Slider Card

Hello all! I put my first Barn Door Slider Card on my Facebook Fan Page the other day and some other crafting groups.
I received requests for how to make these cards so I made another one with a picture tutorial and perhaps a free file linked below!

There are die sets out there for this card, but I didn't want to buy one when I can make it with my Silhouette Cameo 3 and Silhouette Studio, Designer Edition software.

So, for no reason at all other than I just want to, here's the link to this file for free: Sugar Barn Door Card

Please note, this file is designed in Silhouette Studio so it only works with Silhouette Studio.

Step 1: Choose your paper. I used the Organic Cotton stack from Park Lane for this card. These papers can be found at your local Joann and Fabric Stores or on their website.

Step 2: Cut out all pieces, grab and brads or accessories. You will need some pop up tabs if you chose to do the slider like I did. (I did not include the sentiment or flowers in this file so the user can do their own)
I prefer to use paper as my spacers instead of pop up tape. It's more sturdy and there are not weak spots with the face of the card using the paper. I included this in the file and I cut 6 of these out on white cardstock by Park Lane. I built up all 6 pieces using the Teresa Collins Mega Runner from Xyron, which happens to be my favorite mega runner.

Step 3: Secure your pieces with adhesive. I ran my stationary pieces through the  Xyron Creative Station Lite®
Step 4: Assemble all pieces.
Note on the door accent pieces, I laid down the long vertical pieces first and then overlapped the shorter horizontal pieces over them.
I designed this so you can play with the bottom of the door and make it your own. You can leave it how it is above, remove the middle horizontal piece and just have four accent pieces, or you can do it how I did it below, using all the accent pieces.
Next I cut the door backing with the "window" cut out of it so I can apply the vellum to be seen through. On my first card, I didn't do this and I think I like it this way. Users choice though.
You will note that with this top piece, there is a circle for the knob. The backing to this door does not have this circle piece to protect your message from hardware scraping across the sentiment area. IF YOU DO NOT have this kind of hardware, there is an alternate door with paper handle in the file.

Step 5: Add your sentiment area before your door. You will note that the top face plate area has a larger ledger to accommodate the "rail" for your wheels (refer to step 8 to see what I mean).
Step 6: For the door slider, you can use many different things such as pennies with a spacer between, washers, buttons, etc. I included this cut in the file where you can use clear acetate or some sort of thicker material for the slider portion. Whatever works for you is great.
Note that even though the slider plastic is larger than the face opening area, I cut my tabs down to fit just between the open area on the face. If you cut it too thick, your slider will not slide very well.
Front facing before I apply the door
Step 7: With 6 brads, I assembled my hardware. The top two brads on the wheel are just for show. The other four brads (shown here) are to adhere to your slider.
 Pop them into place
Gently fold brads into place. The pop up tabs will prevent you from folding them too tight, but you want some leeway so your door will slide.
Step 8: Top rail.
Your top rail is just for show, the wheels DO NOT adhere to the rail. They are free standing and again, just for show.
Step 9: Adhere the face to the card base
Final project:

I hope you enjoy and have some creative fun with this file. If you have any questions please feel free to ask!
