Honey Bear

Hello all. I've taken a little break from blogging for awhile now. I've been posting my smaller projects on my Facebook Fanpage or Instagram instead. However, this project just deserves its own blog post!

I took two new SnapDragon Snippet files from the Silhouette Store (Beehive 3D  and Honey Bee)  and combined them with a few older SnapDragon files (Nativity 3D Stand and Teddy Bear) as well as the 3D Gaillardia and Grass files all found in the Silhouette Store.

To begin with, I cut all of my beehive pieces (I reduced the original size of this file as well) out with my Silhouette Cameo 3 using Bazzill Basic Paper's 'Bling' cardstock. It has a nice shimmer to it to give the hive a little bling!
I couldn't decide if I wanted to emboss the hive or not knowing that the lines wouldn't add up, however I bit the bullet, grabbed my Sizzix Big Shot and embossed away with a Darice hive folder.
I added a bit of dry brush to the hive before assembly with some Tim Holtz Walnut Stain distress ink.
Next I decided my hive needed a stand. I embossed it with a wood grain, although in the end not much can be seen!
At this point, I knew I wanted to add grass and flowers.
When deciding on the flower, I knew I wanted to do one of my favorites the Gaillardia. So I cut a few sizes out on some 'Sour Lemon' and 'Cherry Splash' cardstock. For the red center, I dry brushed the same Tim Holtz ink and for the yellow center I used some Teresa Collins Fiesty Red ink from ColorBox.
Next I cut the grasses out of 'Easter Grass' and 'Juicy Pear' cardstock. I highlighted them a bit with ColorBox's Green pigment ink. The flower stems and leaves are cut out of 'Caramel Apple' cardstock.
After applying a ribbon of adhesive from Teresa Collins Mega Runner by Xyron®, I applied the grass to the base of the stand.
At this point I considered myself done. But no, no my husband challenged me to add a bear. So I took SnapDragon's Teddy Bear file and downsized it about 75% of the original file. So small in fact, that I was able to cut all the main pieces out of 1 sheet of 12 x 12 'Milkshake' cardstock. The smaller details were cut out of 'Butter Mint' and 'Peanut Fudge' cardstock.
Although this was a challenge, I was able to win the challenge! My bear sits about 4" tall now.
After applying the bear, I felt he was just kinda hanging out there so I made some simple logs to put under his foot. I detailed the logs with ColorBox white and black ink.

 Finished Project:

The lid comes off of the beehive to reveal a little compartment.
