Xyron and Derwent Collaboration

Hello everyone! I am excited about this weeks project for Xyron. We have teamed up with Derwent to bring you some color. Now with it being spring and seeing flowers starting to pop, color is just what we need after a long winter in these parts of the Inland Northwest.
For my project, I decided to step a little outside of my normal and use the 'sketch' feature with my Silhouette Cameo 3. (I added a little bonus project to the bottom of this post)

After searching for sketches in the Silhouette Design Store, I decided on the mushroom and the rose sketches.

 Mushroom Card Recipe: 
Using a Pigma Micron 03 pen and the pen holder, I was able to sketch out the base layer of the mushroom on a sheet of paper from the Derwent Big Book A5 Sketch Book.
Then I picked a few square areas and sketched those out as well. I left the main base image black and white while coloring in the three smaller square areas that I sketched out with Derwent's Procolour Pencils.
Next I grabbed my embossing powder and accessories to emboss the sentiment on the top of the base image.
Then I ran each element through my Xyron Creative Station Lite®  (Note I threw in some foam to create some pop up squares for the three colored pieces)

 Rose Card Recipe:
For the rose card, I repeated most of the steps for the mushroom card. I decided that I wanted the rose to have softer lines though so after I sketched it out in pen, I took another sheet of paper from the Derwent Big Book A5 Sketch Book and simply did a rough sketch with a pencil.

I really wanted some water drops on the rose so that actually was the main reason why I wanted the softer lines so I could draw in the water!

Note with the rose card, instead of doing the pop up squares like I did on the mushroom card, I did the opposite for this card.

I ran the three base images through my Xyron Creative Station Lite® and the sentiment through my 1.5" Sticker Maker to get an even amount of adhesive to my backing.

Bonus Project: 
Little people know that I started my artistic adventure in drawing. Well if we really want to get technical I started it with a coloring contest for a grocery store and won in the 1st grade (thank you red, white, and blue turkey).

Moving on....I haven't drawn for at least 10 years. Life happens, kids come along, priorities change! So when I received my products from Derwent, I was excited and determined to use the journal and pencils. My first drawing, not very attractive. So I gave it a bit until I felt inspired to put pencil to paper.

I decided on doing some cherry blossoms. We have a cherry blossom tree in our yard and it happens to be my favorite. So much so, I have it tattooed on my foot. But I decided to sketch it out because the blossoms only last for a week, so why not memorialize it?!


One of the things I really liked about the Derwent pencils is that it was easy enough to blend colors effortlessly. With something like a tree branch, multiple colors can work together without having to really make sense.
