Let the Wild Rumpus start repurposed photo board
Hello all! Recently we took an impromptu trip to California to see the redwood trees on the Avenue of the Giants tour. We stayed in Newport OR for a night as that was our halfway point. After we drove to California, stayed two nights, and saw the trees, we decided the beach was calling us again so we went back to Newport for Labor Day weekend. After spending a few days there, we continued on our way back home with Multnomah Falls being our last touristy stop.
When we got home, I needed a place to put our most recent travel frames. Since I just took a bunch of shelves down in the house in prep of making my own, the only shelf left to use is by our front door where our keys usually end up.
Long story short, my frames kept getting knocked down. While at Joanns, I was cruising their clearance area and found a wood frame ($14.99, but they gave it to me for $8.97 as it had been mismarked) that I hoped would work as a key rack with just a little bit of modification.
This was the best one out of about 5 or 6 options. The scratches didn't bother me as I knew I was putting photos there and if they really bothered me, I could just touch it up. I knew that I wanted to use up some of my Siser Heat Transfer Vinyl from my last wood sign. After some discussion with the husband, we decided on doing a Where the Wild Things Are theme, because why not?! Mainly he just wanted the word 'rumpus' somewhere.
After picking the font, Matilda/Anderson from the Silhouette Design Store, I mapped out the sentiment before grabbing my Wild One - Hairy Monster and Wild One - Boy files from Lettering Designs I purchased through the Silhouette Design Store to complete my HTV sentiment for the sign. Note the use of a needle for weeding small pieces of vinyl. Makes life much easier!Next I needed to remove the hardware to make room for the HTV. After applying my HTV, I got started on my labels.
I could've just left my labels black and white, but I was sitting here staring at my Xyron Metallic Transfer Foil for the Xyron Glaminator Foil Laminator and figured hey why not, let's make it fancy. I decided to stick to the silver look to match the hardware.
This brings just a little extra pop to my project!
Lastly I applied (4) 7/8 in. Nickel Cup Hooks I got from the local hardware store for $2.79 for 40 pieces. Do I need 40 pieces? No, but I'm sure I'll find something to use them for!
Final Project:
Multnomah falls was really smoky. Little did we know we would end up getting caught in a wildfire at the WA/OR border. But we made it home safely later that night.
Since the wood is not completely smooth, I knew that my HTV would not be a smooth application, but again it doesn't bother me. Adds to the rustic I think.

All in all I'd say I spent maybe $15 to make this!
